Crew Chief Vultures 69 in Dong Tam. Went back to the world before the move. Also crewed on "Smokey". Can't forget Smokey. Just found this site 09/08 and it brings back many memories. Crewed with many Pilots. Vulture 16 on 714. Mr Schmid, Capt Pacifico {Rocky}, Frenchy on Smokey. Denny Klien from Chicago. Many great Gunners, all bored grunts looking for action. Tried to get a hold of Jim Powers of Palatine then moved?? He also crewed Smokey. Keep in touch.

I need someone to contact me at my e-mail address. I would like to donate a drawing of the 162nd Assault helicopter company area at Dong Tam 1968-1969. I also have prepared a map of Dong Tam that I have not been able to find. It's not 100% accurate, but its way better than any thing on the internet. The people in charge of this site needs to contact me. Robert Joy

Seems forever since I lasted posted, but had to say it's nice to see so many people are still visiting the site. Whenever I meet another Nam vet in my travels I tell them of the site whether they were involved with helicopters or not, and usually they write down the address. To crash and burn Calderon, I have tried to email you, but it comes back undeliverable. I am in contact with a number of the guys, but Mike Zellman is one that I wouldn't mind contacting also. I may be coming to Oregon in August to spray with the huey so get in touch.

Just stumbled across this wonderful site. Dad, Maj William R. Phillips, was in country 28 days when he was KIA 3FEB67. He and Maj Karas were in #66-00908. I have read the afteraction report but am really interested in any accounts of anything that my dad may have done. He was the OPS O at the time. I don't even know his call-sign. If anyone has any photos of him during that short tour I would very much appreciate being contacted. I am planning a trip to Rucker this fall. Wish I had know about the dedication in June08, I would have taken Mom. Dad just had a great-grand son born in December. I want WRP IV to know all about him. He inspired me to a 20 yr tour as a Marine. I'm sure he made an impression on others of the 162nd even in the short 28 days that you had the chance to know him. Thanks for your service and your help. W.R. Phillips Jr (Maj USMC Ret)

It has been several years since I have signed into this site, which I appreciate very much. My dad, Vernon "Pete" Tweedy was killed 40 years ago this year. The military wanted to bury him at the military cemetary in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. My persisant mother protested and fought, having 5 yound children who would want to "visit" their dad. She insisted that my dad be buried at Chalmette National Cemetary where she could bring us to visit. They did in fact re-opened Chalmette Cemetary and my dad was the first war time casualty to be buried there since World War II. I am attempting to get our local newpaper to write a story to honor my dad and mom for all that they did and acknowledge the cemetary being re-opened for my dad. Any comments, stories, etc. would be appreicated for submission with my request. Thanks again to all who have contacted me over the years and have filled a great hole in the hearts of my and my siblings, along with our children.

I currently work with a gentleman named Leroy Mahler, who served with the 162nd. I am not sure of the years, he was an aircraft mechanic, but has told me about flying resupply, medivac, and insertion missions. If anyone would liek to contact him you may email me and I will be glad to pass it on as he is not computer savy.
